Wildman Harrold’s Land Use & Zoning Practice works in all aspects of land regulation activity representing public and private sector clients in land use matters including preparing and negotiating annexation agreements, drafting comprehensive plans and zoning ordinances, obtaining approval for land development, and litigating the disconnection of property from incorporated municipalities. Our attorneys have litigated nearly every type of issue that can arise in this area, including growth-related municipal financing and exactions; tax increment financing; eminent domain, annexation and subdivision issues; cable franchising and telecommunications; and special remedy litigation such as injunctions, declaratory judgments, mandamus, quo warranto, and statutory litigation.
Our attorneys represent local governments and their various boards, committees, and departments in matters including economic development and incentives, zoning licensing and permitting, and litigation. We also represent business entities such as large real estate developers, corporations, organizations, and individuals in zoning, licensing, land use, and administrative adjudication matters. Recently handled matters include:
- Representing a national bank in various land use entitlements and developments in the Chicago area, as well as in joint ventures and inter-governmental partnering.
- Handling virtually all of the land use development and litigation work for an Illinois’ city and practicing in surrounding Chicago suburbs, performing municipal and land use services to other local areas.
- Representing a multimillion-dollar domestic company, in the acquisition of approximately 100 acres of property near Detroit, and in the development of a major facility for industrial use.
- Defeated a proposed solid waste transfer station in Chicago’s west suburbs on behalf of a consortium of businesses, municipalities, and individuals.
- Advised on the development of a 400+ acre industrial park, which is intended to house 5 million square feet of building space and create 1,500 to 2,000 new jobs, as well as enterprise zone benefits, classification incentives, tax increment financing, annexation and other land use and economic development matters.
